Job summary

Rochester Regional Health System is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to work under the supervision of a NYS licensed Physical Therapist in Rochester, NY. The role involves documentation, medications, and direct patient care in long-term care settings.

The PTA will implement individualized treatment plans, assist with gait and transfers, and participate in discharge planning while coordinating with a multidisciplinary team. Strong English proficiency and computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
• NYS PTA licensure required.
• Reads, writes and speaks English.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must demonstrate computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Complete and document patient care within PTA standards, including visits notes and orders.
• Implement individualized treatment programs and instruct on adaptive equipment; confer with therapist and team.
• Provide PT gait and ambulation training and instruction in use of assistive devices.
• Instruct safe transfers with proper body mechanics.
• Participate in discharge planning and provide patient and family teaching to support discharge.
• Communicate regularly with Physical Therapist overseeing care.
• Coordinate patient scheduling with team; adapt to census changes.
• Maintain professional growth through continuing education and inservices.
• Share pertinent information with patient/family about goals and progress.
• Motivate others and respond to non-verbal cues appropriately.
• Evaluate home environment for independence and recommend adaptive equipment.
• Maintain agency visit productivity.
