Job summary

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. is seeking a part-time Multimedia Journalist Reporter in Lansing, MI. The role involves reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing and feeding content across platforms, with approximately 3 days per week.

You will manage deadlines and produce engaging local news for broadcast and online audiences. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or equivalent experience, fluent English, strong communication skills and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or equivalent experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (depends on market size).
• Superior on-air presence.
• Proficiency with computers, phones, copiers, scanners and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record.

Responsibilities

• Reports news stories for broadcast and describes background and events.
• Arranges interviews with people who can provide information.
• Reviews copy and corrects errors for style and accuracy.
• Determines emphasis, length and format; organizes material accordingly.
• Researches background information to provide complete and accurate reports.
• Gathers information through research, interviews, or events.
• Pitches stories to editors and producers relevant to the local community.
• Receives assignments and develops story ideas from leads.
• Discusses issues with producers to establish priorities.
• Checks references to obtain relevant facts and timelines.
• Shoots and edits news events and reports; produces content for all platforms.
• Ensures content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms.
• Interacts with viewers/users on social media.
