Job summary

Hearst's 16WAPT in Jackson, MS is seeking an energetic Local News Anchor Reporter who can lead live coverage from the anchor desk and in the field, enterprise exclusives, and deliver clear, compelling storytelling under tight deadlines.

You will write and edit scripts, mentor reporters and producers, develop sources, and appear at public events while maintaining journalistic integrity and engaging viewers.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of anchor experience required.
• 2+ years of reporting experience required.
• In-person attendance is required.
• Have a valid driver's license and a clear driving record.
• Ability to develop sources and deliver live reporting under tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated integrity and ethics in journalism.

Responsibilities

• Deliver scripted and ad-lib material with professionalism, personality, and purpose.
• Work with and guide reporters and producers in newscast production.
• Plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news or special project assignments.
• Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories with exclusive content.
• Develop a network of sources to break stories of significance.
• Appear on behalf of the station at public events.
• Contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms.
• Work on different stories and projects at once and meet deadlines.
• Summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
