Job summary

Spectrum News in Ohio is hiring a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ). You will handle the storytelling process from pitch to writing, shooting, interviewing, and editing, delivering timely, accurate reports across TV and digital platforms.

You’ll work with a collaborative team, travel to cover community stories, and manage flexible deadlines including breaking news and severe weather. A strong on-camera presence and solid writing skills are essential.

Qualifications

Experience: Television news reporting – 3+ years.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field; or comparable television work experience.
Technical Skills: Ability to shoot videos, understanding of video editing software, and utilize social media effectively.
Skills: Ability to communicate effectively on camera and through writing and verbal expression.
Abilities: An innate curiosity and a sense of urgency; lift/carry up to 30 pounds.
Travel Ability: Open to travel to cover important stories in the neighborhood.
Schedule: Able to work under deadlines; willing to work varying shifts including weekends/holidays.
Valid driver’s license for authorized driving in the state of residence.

Responsibilities

Pitch, write, shoot, interview, and edit stories; own steps of the storytelling process.
Collaborate with a team to produce compelling coverage across TV, connected TV, and digital platforms.
Be ready to travel to community locations to uncover local stories.
Adapt to flexible deadlines and weather emergencies while maintaining accuracy and balance.
