Qualifications

• Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field and meet licensure eligibility to teach mathematics.
• Must be eligible for, or in possession of a Virginia teaching license.
• Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Teaches mathematics using Newport News Public Schools curriculum and standards.
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter per state law and regulations.
• Develops lesson plans aligned with SOL standards and district philosophy.
• Adapts instruction for individual and subgroups to meet student needs.
• Keeps records, reports cards, attendance and other required documentation.
• Maintains standards of student behavior for an orderly classroom.
• Collaborates with staff to assess student needs and communicate with parents.
