Job summary

City of Blue Springs Recreation Department seeks a fitness instructor to lead group classes under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor – Fitness. You will educate participants on safe exercise, monitor classes, and maintain a welcoming atmosphere while delivering well-prepared routines and ensuring equipment readiness.

A current group fitness certification (NCCA accredited) and CPR/AED are preferred or obtainable within six months; prior public-class teaching experience is expected.

Qualifications

• NCCA accredited or similar group fitness certification with experience.
• CPR/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Previous experience teaching in a public setting.
• Strong interpersonal communication and knowledge of group fitness strategies with music and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Teaches fitness classes based on set class schedules; provides warm-up, stretches, and cool-down time.
• Instructs participants on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises.
• Prepares appropriate routines, equipment, music, handouts, etc. for class.
• Assists participants, answer questions and maintains a positive exercise experience.
• Builds relationships with participants and maintains a positive presence with instructors and members.
• Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs.
• Ensures safety standards are met and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
• Effective communication with the public, supervisors, and co-workers.
• Completes proper documentation, including class attendance sheets and timesheets.
• Ensure class space and equipment’s proper upkeep, appearance, and function.
