Job description

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of propulsion systems engineers, you will be responsible for developing engine shock, vibration, and acoustic environments, as well as the tools and methods needed to efficiently process engine hot fire and vehicle flight data. You will work in a fast-paced setting and deliver innovative solutions to challenging physics problems encountered in the demanding environments of rocket engines.

Special Mentions
  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 20 % of the time
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Prediction of Engine shock, vibration, and acoustic environments
  • Review and interpret shock, vibration, and acoustic measurements from hot‑fire and flight data.
  • Derive dynamic environment levels and generate associated documentation, specifications, and requirements.
  • Develop, plan, supervise, and verify component environments tests (e.g., vibration, acoustic, and shock tests) to validate analytical predictions.
  • Develop and improve tools and methods for efficient data processing and reduction of test and flight environments.
  • Work closely with test, instrumentation, and systems engineering teams to ensure adequate, well‑placed, and high‑quality measurements are acquired during ground and flight testing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or aerospace
  • Minimum of two years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in space systems
  • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluids, acoustics, and structural dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex problems, work through ambiguity, and deliver high‑quality results on schedule.
  • Proven history of facing challenges with tenacity and resilience, maintaining an optimistic and solutionsoriented attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams and communicate clearly with engineers from multiple disciplines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in rocket engine development, with at least 2 years focused on vibroacoustics or dynamic environments.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids and rocket engine design, including understanding of major subsystems (turbomachinery, combustion devices, valves, feedlines, etc.).
  • Familiarity with rocket engine hot‑fire testing and associated data acquisition, including instrumentation such as accelerometers, pressure transducers, strain gauges, load cells, and microphones.
  • Experience defining, executing, and correlating vibration, acoustic, and shock tests to analytical predictions.
  • Familiarity with CAD and PLM tools, such as Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill.
  • Proficiency with data analysis and scripting tools such as MATLAB and Python, including signal processing and automation of analysis workflows.
