Job summary

Niles Community Schools is seeking a dynamic Elementary Building Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports daily classroom coverage with professionalism and strong communication while interacting with students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities include following lesson plans, maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment, supervising students, and reporting concerns to the principal as needed. Occasional cross-building assignments may occur.

Qualifications

• Daily attendance is required.
• Certification statuses include Michigan Teaching Certificate (Substitute Permit not required).
• Out of State Teaching Certificate with 60+ credit hours accepted.
• Temporary Teaching Authorization may be used.
• Transcripts showing 60+ credit hours and 2.0 GPA required.

Responsibilities

• Report daily to Elementary School to serve as substitute teacher for any class lacking coverage.
• If no substitution is needed, may be assigned to other buildings or support positions within the district.
• Review and follow provided lesson plans, schedules, and school expectations.
• Provide instruction and activities appropriate to the assigned grade level and classroom setting.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive learning environment.
• Supervise students during instructional time and transitions, addressing safety concerns.
• Monitor participation and progress, and provide assistance as needed.
• Follow health, safety, and confidentiality procedures communicated by the school.
• Report significant concerns to the principal or designee.
• Maintain accurate notes on work, attendance, and events requiring follow-up.
• Protect confidential student and school information per policies.
• Perform other duties as directed by the principal or designee.
