Job description

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a litigation attorney to support counterfeit and intellectual property enforcement matters through the firm’s contract attorney and alternative staffing program, DWTSurge. The selected attorney will support DWT’s litigation practice group, focusing on IP enforcement, consumer protection, and unfair competition litigation matters for a global client. While the role is remote, attorneys must hold active bar admission in their state of residence and a state where DWT maintains an office.

Attorneys with prior experience in-house or mid-to-large size firms are encouraged to apply. Experience representing technology clients is a plus, but not required. Candidates will work closely with DWT attorneys and other contract attorneys as part of a collaborative team supporting sophisticated client matters in a flexible, remote environment.

This reduced-hours position averages approximately 30 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours based on business needs. While the engagement is for an initial 6-month contract term, we anticipate the work to remain relatively steady and there is a strong possibility of renewal for successful candidates. We are seeking attorneys interested in establishing a long-term working relationship with the firm.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of litigation experience in a mid-sized or large law firm and/or with large institutional clients.
  • Experience with IP enforcement, consumer protection, counterfeit goods, or unfair competition litigation is preferred but not required.
  • Residency and active bar admission in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OR, PA*, TN, TX, VA, WA, WDC, and WV and active bar admission in a state where DWT maintains an office. (*Jurisdiction specific)
  • Strong briefing skills and the ability to conduct substantive research.
  • Ability to work exclusively with DWT during the engagement.
  • Flexibility to increase work hours, as needed.
  • Ability to work primarily during West Coast business hours.
  • Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT’s flexible attorney and professional staff program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is eligible for benefits. Due to the structure of the DWTSurge program, DWTSurge employees are not eligible for the firm’s pro bono, DEI, and other activities or opportunities outside of the above stated scope of work. We are interested in candidates electing to pursue a more flexible way of providing continuous, high-value legal services to the firm and our clients.

Salary Range

The hourly range for this position in CA, IL, MD, MN, NY, OR, WA, and WDC is $100 to $120 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Additional benefits include:

  • First Stop Health Telemedicine: Speak with a licensed physician or mental health counselor 24/7, covered by the firm
  • TELUS Health Employee Assistance Program: Receive support with mental, financial, physical, and emotional wellbeing
  • Voluntary Pet Insurance
  • Milk Stork: Virtual lactation consulting, breast milk shipping and nutritional testing covered by the firm
  • Peloton App
  • Headspace App
