Job summary

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) in Aiken, SC seeks a DWPF Crane First Line Manager (FLM) to lead safe and efficient crane operations at the Defense Waste Processing Facility.

The FLM will supervise crane operators, coordinate maintenance planning, ensure compliance with licenses and procedures, and mentor operators in disciplined operations while maintaining logs and training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher with related technical study and relevant engineering/maintenance experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline highly preferred with nuclear experience.
  • Deviations to education/experience must follow DOE Order 426.2 protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises operator activities and crane operations; ensures supplies for facility operations.
  • Plans and coordinates work with production and support groups.
  • Reviews lockout/tagout plans for hazardous energy control and canyon tagouts.
  • Ensures activities comply with licenses, permits, and plant procedures; can shut down facility when needed.
  • Approves start of maintenance, operations, construction, tests and surveillance in area.
  • Ensures operators are trained, qualified, and fit for duty.
  • Communicates with support organizations to start/complete activities as scheduled.
  • Performs initial investigations of abnormal events and removes equipment as needed.
  • Directs emergency operations and trains personnel in emergency activities.
  • Conducts periodic tours to verify safety and procedure compliance.
  • Identifies deficiencies and routes for corrective action; mentors operators in Disciplined Operations.
  • Maintains logs/records of operating events; reviews changes to procedures and plant mods.
  • Performs Field Property Administrator duties for equipment inventories.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a DWPF (Defense Waste Processing Facility) Crane First Line Manager (FLM) to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

A DWPF (Defense Waste Processing Facility) Crane First Line Manager (FLM)is responsible for the safe and efficient direction of all facility activities while adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, DOE Orders, and company requirements. Typically reports to and takes direction from the shift manager.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises operator activities associated with MPC and in-cell crane activities 221S, 511S, 512s and canister movements. In addition, maintains sufficient supplies to support facility operations
  • Plans and coordinates work involving production and support groups
  • Reviews and approves all lockout / tagout plans for hazardous energy control and canyon tagouts which affect the facility
  • Ensures that facility activities are within applicable licenses and permits and are conducted in accordance with plant procedures and Technical Standards/Operating Requirements. Has the authority and obligation to shut down the facility or to direct any other action necessary to ensure the facility is in a safe condition
  • Approves the start of maintenance, operations, construction, test and surveillance activities in their area that affect the facility or its equipment
  • Ensures that operators are trained and qualified for their activities and are physically fit and fit for duty to perform the work
  • Communicates with other support organizations to ensure operating activities are started and completed as scheduled
  • Performs initial investigations of abnormal events, including the removal from service of equipment and systems as necessary
  • Directs emergency operations and trains personnel in emergency activities
  • Performs periodic tours of the facility to observe activities and ensures they are being performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures
  • Identifies housekeeping and facility material condition deficiencies to the appropriate origination(s) for corrective action
  • Acts as primary mentor for operators (especially in the area of Disciplined Operations)
  • Maintains logs and records of all operating events in accordance with facility operating procedures
  • Ensures that operators review changes to operating procedures and plant modifications. Performs Field Property Administrator responsibility for equipment inventories
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED, Associates degree in a related technical discipline, BA/BS in a non-technical discipline, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline and experience in a relevant engineering, operations, and/or maintenance function
  • 3+ years Nuclear experience

Deviations to education and/or experience requirements must follow DOE Order 426.2 protocols.

Additional Information:

Facility qualification process includes extensive classroom, formal on-the-job training, and performance-based evaluations conducted by facility management. MPC crane operator and canister operator qualification must be completed within one year.
