Job summary

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Fire Protection Technician to support the Fire Inspection Program at our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site. The role involves testing, diagnosing issues, performing repairs and maintenance on fire detectors, alarms, doors, sprinkler systems, pumps and other fire control components.

The position is multi-level, with level determined by education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Associate level requires a High School Diploma or GED with some exposure to fire control systems.
  • Fire Protection Technician requires High School Diploma or GED and direct work experience with fire control systems inspection and maintenance; NICET level 1+.
  • Senior level requires a BS in Fire Science, Fire Protection, or Engineering; or a high school diploma with combination of secondary education and related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follows policies to complete work orders and perform basic repairs on fire protection systems.
  • Conducts inspections and tests to verify alarm and sprinkler systems operate properly.
  • Assists with servicing detectors, alarms, doors, panels, and containment equipment; maintains reports.

Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Fire Protection Technicianto be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

The Fire Protection Technician will support the company’s Fire Inspection Program, a comprehensive Life Safety, Fire Prevention and Fire Hazard Inspection Program. Tests, diagnose issues, conducts repairs and maintenance, and reports of a variety of fire control systems including fire detectors, fire barriers/doors, fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and other fire control components.

This is a multi-level posting. Candidate(s) selected to receive an offer will be offered the position level commensurate with their education, experience, and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities at the Associate Fire Protection Technician Level:

  • Follows policies and procedures to complete work orders by conducting basic repairs and maintenance on various systems, apparatus, and equipment including wet, dry, deluge, fire pumps, and electrical components
  • Conducts visual and manual inspections and system tests under the direction of more senior personnel to verify alarm and sprinkler systems are operating properly
  • Assists with the servicing and testing of fire detectors, fire alarms, fire doors and panels, and other fire control containment equipment
  • Contributes to the identification and clarification of issues with fire protection systems
  • Learns and assists with interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and operational materials to resolve issues
  • Generates standard reports and utilizes corrective action systems and processes to report issues and findings
  • Successfully completes classroom, on-the-job training, lectures, seminars and other forms of training to effectively perform the job
  • Performs administrative functions as needed
  • Operates motorized vehicles and associated equipment within policy and licensing limits
  • Meets and performs the physical requirements of the job duties, which may include lifting/handling up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperatures, wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory) and meeting radiological control requirements
  • Acquire within one year, and maintain NICET level 1 certifications: Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, and Special Hazards Systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities at the Fire Protection Technician Level:

  • Understands site policies and procedures to service, troubleshoot, conduct repairs and maintenance on various systems, apparatus, and equipment including wet, dry, deluge, fire pumps, and electrical components. Assists senior personnel to disassemble, inspect, and repair equipment that requires specialized knowledge or is exceptionally hazardous
  • Applies NFPA codes and standards to mitigate fire and safety risks
  • Tests, diagnoses moderately complex problems, troubleshoots, and services fire detectors, fire alarms, fire doors and panels, and other fire control containment equipment
  • Liaises with internal and external representatives to test fire pumps and identify and clarify issues with fire protection systems
  • Interprets blueprints, diagrams, and operational materials to resolve issues
  • Acquire and maintain NICET level 2 certifications: Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, and Special Hazards Systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities at the Senior Fire Protection Technician Level:

  • Advanced understanding and application of site policies, procedures, and codes to service, troubleshoot, conduct repairs and maintenance on various systems, apparatus, and equipment including wet, dry, deluge, fire pumps, and electrical components. Disassembles, inspects, and repairs equipment requiring specialized knowledge or situations exceptionally hazardous
  • Tests, diagnoses complex problems, troubleshoots, and services fire detectors, fire alarms, fire doors and panels, and other fire control containment equipment. Provides recommendation for improvements as needed
  • Liaises with internal and external representatives to test fire pumps and identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues
  • Provides on-the-job training, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced technicians
  • Creates and/or generates standard and ad hoc reports and utilizes corrective action systems and processes to report issues and findings. May be responsible for STAR item resolution
  • Acquire and maintain NICET level 3 certifications: Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, and Special Hazards Systems
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Associate Fire Protection Technician:

  • High School Diploma or GED with some limited work exposure to fire control systems

Fire Protection Technician:

  • High School Diploma or GED and direct work experience with fire control systems inspection and maintenance
  • Possess NICET level 1 or higher certification(s)

Senior Fire Protection Technician:

  • BS in Fire Science, Fire Protection, or Engineering; or
  • High School Diploma or GED and combination of secondary education and/or experience directly related to the job function

  • To remain in the position, the employee must be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of fire protection system orders and policies and retain training qualifications as required by management,

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Fire Protection Technican:
