Job description

Overview

REI Co-op is united around discovering, building and celebrating better ways of working in this world, all so that folks can find and pursue a love of the outdoors. When you work for the co-op, you do your best work with the support to live your best life. And you play a part in shaping the future of the outdoors, for people and our planet.

As Divisional Vice President of Store Operations, you will shape how REI stores work today and prepare for what comes next. You will turn enterprise and Stores strategy into clear priorities, simple operating practices, and measurable plans.

In partnership with the Vice President of Stores, Regional Directors, and leaders across the co-op, you will connect store insight, customer needs, employee experience, technology, and business goals. You will lead the Store Operations team and help stores deliver strong results, safe work, engaged teams, and a differentiated customer experience.

Responsibilities
  • Set the strategy and operating model for store operations, including routines, labor payroll practices, tools, systems, service standards, and fleet support.
  • Turn enterprise goals into focused plans, clear measures, decision rights, and execution rhythms that store teams can use and sustain.
  • Simplify store work, reduce friction, and improve operational, financial, customer, employee, safety, and productivity outcomes.
  • Lead annual and long-range planning, budgets, resource choices, and investment recommendations with Stores and Finance leaders.
  • Guide large-scale change, including technology, digital tools, automation, and new operating practices, with plans for readiness, training, adoption, and follow-through.
  • Build an inclusive, high-performing Store Operations team that uses data, field feedback, systems thinking, and strong partnerships to improve the business.
Qualifications
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in multi-unit retail, store operations, field operations, or a similar complex and distributed environment.
  • Experience leading large-scale operating strategy, execution, and transformation, including translating strategy into priorities, routines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of store operations, retail operating models, customer experience, workforce planning, field execution, and performance management.
  • Strong business and financial judgment, with experience managing budgets, reviewing investments, and connecting operating choices to business results.
  • A record of influencing senior leaders, aligning partners across functions, communicating clear trade-offs, and leading through change and uncertainty.
  • Experience building and leading teams with clear roles, shared accountability, and the skills needed for future work.
Preferred
  • Experience modernizing retail operations through technology, digital tools, omnichannel capabilities, automation, or new operating practices is preferred. Experience with organization design, operating model change, or capability building across a large field organization is also helpful.
  • You will work across Stores, Commercial, Merchandising, Marketing, Technology, Human Resources, Finance, Customer Experience, Supply Chain, and Safety and Risk. Success in this role means store priorities are clear, practical, and aligned, and store teams have the tools and support to serve customers and deliver business results.
