Job summary

Western Veterinary Partners is offering veterinary externships for students at any grade level, to gain real-world experience in our diverse practices across the United States. externs can participate as part of clinical year blocks or as informal externships, with a mission to improve professional growth in a supportive environment.

Benefits include a $1,000 stipend and hands-on clinical exposure, plus opportunities to learn client communication, case management, and potential future employment

• Veterinary students in any grade may apply.
• Externship can be part of clinical year externship blocks or for informal externship experience.

Responsibilities

• Learn practice management tasks: client histories, performing physical exams, reviewing estimates; ownership of cases with treatment plans, diagnostics, in-house labs; observe/assist or perform surgical procedures including dental work.
• Practice learning communication skills, time management, fiscal responsibilities, record keeping, and relationship building with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Veterinary Students in any grade can apply for an externship with a WVP Practice as part of their clinical year externship blocks or for informal externship experience.

What you will learn:

• Working closely with the supervising veterinarian you will gain experience in all areas of practice management including; client communication - gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, reviewing estimates; Ownership of cases by creating treatment plans, diagnostics, managing and performing in house labs; Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures including dental procedures; and overall medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice learn communication skills, time management skills, fiscal responsibilities, record keeping, and relationship building with the medical team, support staff, and clients.*
