Job summary

Western Veterinary Partners invites veterinary students to apply for an externship across its US practices. This externship offers real-world experience by translating classroom learning into clinical settings, with opportunities to learn in areas from client communication to surgical procedures.

Eligible students include any year of veterinary school, with a stipend and the chance to expand their professional network across WA/CA/AL and other locations.

Qualifications

• Open to veterinary students in any grade.
• Externship blocks or informal externship experience eligible.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in practice management including client communication and case histories.
• Observe or participate in clinical procedures and treatments as allowed by the hospital's needs.

Veterinary Students in any grade can apply for an externship with a WVP Practice as part of their clinical year externship blocks or for informal externship experience.

What you will learn:

• Working closely with the supervising veterinarian you will gain experience in all areas of practice management including; client communication - gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, reviewing estimates; Ownership of cases by creating treatment plans, diagnostics, managing and performing in house labs; Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures including dental procedures; and overall medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice learn communication skills, time management skills, fiscal responsibilities, record keeping, and relationship building with the medical team, support staff, and clients.*
