The Union County Board Of County Commissioners in Florida is seeking a CDL operator for heavy equipment including dump trucks. This position requires a valid Class B driver's license and involves on-call duties during declared emergencies. Candidates must be able to perform maintenance tasks and supervise inmates as needed.
Applicants must also pass drug screening and background checks, with prior experience preferred. Full compliance with work conditions is expected, including potential exposure to extreme environments.
Under direction of the Assistant Superintendent this position performs skilled tasks in the operation of "Commercial Driver's License (CDL)/Class A or B" combination vehicles. It is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of any of the heavy equipment owned by the County; primarily dump trucks, loader and backhoe. This position requires on‑call 24/7 during any declared disaster or emergency.
Work involves exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, strong odors, smoke, dust, pollen and possible toxic or caustic conditions. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work requires occasional physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
Must possess high school diploma or GED, have a valid Florida Driver's License with at least a class "B"* . Must have a minimum of one to three years of related experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen, physical and DOC background check. *Applicants who have obtained a CDL permit but do not have a valid CDL license, may be allowed so long as they obtain their CDL in a timely manner after hire. Financial assistance to obtain a CDL may be available through the County with additional conditions of employment.
