Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and maneuver them in tight spaces
• Inspect brakes, tires, lights, horns, and cooling equipment before leaving the garage
• Load trucks to maximize space, distribute weight, and ensure safety
• Secure cargo to prevent damage during transit
• Conduct security checks and inspections en route
• Follow highway safety regulations
• Have vehicle weight checked at highway scales as directed
• Maintain records of loads, times, and vehicle logs (fuel, mileage)
• Fuel vehicles and heavy equipment
• Lubricate and grease trucks and equipment such as loaders and backhoes
• Inspect tires for wear and proper inflation
• Report mechanical defects after visual inspections
• Strive to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and provide quality customer service
• Lift arms above shoulder level and climb ladders or steps to reach objects
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions in English
• Work cooperatively with colleagues and the public
• Enter vehicle cabs that are approximately 3.5 feet off the ground
• Work safely without posing a threat to self or others

Specialized Vehicle Operation

• Operate specific vehicles such as heavy trucks for overweight loads, gravel trucks, or extended length vehicles

Requirements

• Possess a valid Class A or B CDL license
