Job summary

Delaware Department of Justice seeks a Deputy Attorney General in Sussex County to represent the State in a high-volume criminal caseload, focusing on DUI and traffic offenses and other misdemeanors as needed. The position requires sound judgment for trial decisions and effective courtroom advocacy. It is a casual/seasonal role, up to 37.5 hours weekly, with hourly pay and no benefits.

Qualifications

• Ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, anticipate legal issues, and research accurately and effectively.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as a member of a team of Deputy Attorneys General and staff.
• Learn and apply relevant laws and court rules.

Responsibilities

• Decide what cases should be prosecuted and whether plea offers should be made on a case-by-case basis.
• Determine which cases should proceed to trial and try cases that are not otherwise resolved.
