Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the registered nurse shall provide healthcare for students, including dispensing medications, caring for injuries, and coordinating prevention activities and wellness programs.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in a pediatric medical environment preferred.
- Diploma or Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Valid license from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as an Illinois Registered Nurse.
- Certification in CPR.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Equivalent education and experience considered.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide safety and health information to students and staff; maintain compliance with state regulations regarding immunizations, health records, and screenings.
- Dispense medications according to Illinois School Code and district policies; maintain security of controlled substances.
- Monitor and provide treatment during short-term and long-term recovery, communicating with parents and physicians.
- Be aware of medication side effects and interactions.
- Perform medical interventions to promote student independence.
- Follow OSHA universal precautions.
- Promote wellness programs and serve as a medical resource for students, parents, and staff.
- Provide first aid and notify paramedics in emergencies.
- Develop and update individualized nursing care plans for at-risk students.
- Notify parents/staff of communicable diseases as needed.
- Intervene in classrooms on health issues as necessary.
- Communicate with parents, food service, teachers regarding students' medical needs.
- Maintain accident and disease reports and logs of student visits.
- Attend parent/teacher/student meetings as required.
- Refer students to medical providers.
- Assess students' medical needs.
- Collaborate with school staff, district staff, and outside agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director of educational services and principal.
Starting Salary: $39.41/hour. Salary and benefits are per KESPA Contract.
