  • General Job Description:

    Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the registered nurse shall provide healthcare for students, including dispensing medications, caring for injuries, and coordinating prevention activities and wellness programs.

    Qualifications:

    1. 1-3 years of experience in a pediatric medical environment preferred.
    2. Diploma or Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program.
    3. Valid license from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as an Illinois Registered Nurse.
    4. Certification in CPR.
    5. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
    6. Equivalent education and experience considered.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Provide safety and health information to students and staff; maintain compliance with state regulations regarding immunizations, health records, and screenings.
    2. Dispense medications according to Illinois School Code and district policies; maintain security of controlled substances.
    3. Monitor and provide treatment during short-term and long-term recovery, communicating with parents and physicians.
    4. Be aware of medication side effects and interactions.
    5. Perform medical interventions to promote student independence.
    6. Follow OSHA universal precautions.
    7. Promote wellness programs and serve as a medical resource for students, parents, and staff.
    8. Provide first aid and notify paramedics in emergencies.
    9. Develop and update individualized nursing care plans for at-risk students.
    10. Notify parents/staff of communicable diseases as needed.
    11. Intervene in classrooms on health issues as necessary.
    12. Communicate with parents, food service, teachers regarding students' medical needs.
    13. Maintain accident and disease reports and logs of student visits.
    14. Attend parent/teacher/student meetings as required.
    15. Refer students to medical providers.
    16. Assess students' medical needs.
    17. Collaborate with school staff, district staff, and outside agencies.
    18. Perform other duties as assigned by the director of educational services and principal.

    Starting Salary: $39.41/hour. Salary and benefits are per KESPA Contract.
