Job summary

Elwyn seeks a Substance Abuse Specialist to provide rehabilitation, individual counseling, and staff education in a therapeutic setting for adults with mental illness and addiction disorders.

The role emphasizes evidence-based treatment planning, group and individual sessions, and collaboration with psychiatrists, social workers, and case managers to empower clients toward independence.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, or a closely related field required.
• At least one year of direct addiction services counseling experience required.
• CADAC or equivalent addictions certificate preferred/required.
• Non-profit human service experience preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
• CPR and crisis intervention competencies required by agency protocols.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ substance use and mental health needs.
• Develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans with clients.
• Design treatment strategies addressing addiction and co-occurring disorders; support recovery goals.
• Provide individual counseling and facilitate group therapy sessions.
• Educate clients on coping skills, relapse prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and advocate for clients within the health system.
• Maintain current CADAC or equivalent certification and stay updated on best practices.
• Deliver crisis interventions and ensure client safety with non-violent approaches.
