Job summary

Community Access Unlimited is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide compassionate care for individuals with diverse needs in Union County, NJ. This part-time weekend role supports residents with daily living activities, safety, and engagement.

Responsibilities include helping with meals, transportation, documentation, and collaboration with families and staff. A car and NJ driver's license are required; CPR/First Aid certifications are preferred. Flexible weekends available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Car to use for work purposes with valid NJ drivers license.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities a plus.
• Willing and able to attend required trainings outside of normal work hours.

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs, including developmental disabilities, aging, or health challenges. In this vital role, you will support residents in their daily activities, promote independence, and ensure a safe, respectful, and engaging environment. Your dedication will help enhance quality of life for those you serve while fostering a positive and nurturing community.

Part-Time weekend hours are 7:00AM - 3:00PM or 3:00PM - 11:00PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Positions are located in Union County.

Responsibilities

• Assists individuals' needs and develops an effective counseling/support relationship
• Provides hands on assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing and hygiene, and helps with fire drills and/or other health and safety issues as needed
• Provides assistance for daily living skills, supportive counseling, and direct care assistance
• Helps with food shopping, menu planning, and meal preparation
• Communicates ongoing care results and updates to relevant parties
• Collaborates with families and superiors for best care opportunities
• Helps to arrange and attend social activities
• Transports members to medical appointments, recreation activities, etc.
• Helps ensure a safe, clean, organized, environment
• Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
• Helps resolve member and family concerns
• Attends required trainings, staff meetings, and other meetings/events as requested
• Performs other duties as required

Requirements

• Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care settings preferred
• Knowledge of patient observation techniques, dementia care (including Alzheimer's and memory care), autism support, and hospice or end-of-life care is highly desirable
• Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training or medication administration are a plus
• Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physical tasks involved in patient handling and mobility assistance
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities or health challenges
• Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, or overnight hours as needed
