Job summary

Glenwood is hiring Direct Support Professionals to provide compassionate direct care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a group home setting. Responsibilities include helping with personal care, medication reminders, safety, and documentation, while promoting individualized goals.

Applicants must be 21 or older, hold a valid Alabama driver’s license, and pass background screenings. CNA is a plus, and state/program certifications may apply.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• 21+ years old with a valid Alabama driver’s license and insurability.
• Must pass pre-employment and background screenings including DHR Child Abuse & Neglect Registry and ABI/FBI checks.
• CNA credential is a plus; ability to meet state/program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care in a group home or home-like setting.
• Assist with personal care tasks, including hygiene, grooming, feeding, and ambulation.
• Support residents to achieve person-centered goals in the Day Habilitation component.
• Monitor safety, document services, and report changes to the office.
• Assist with medication reminders (with proper training) and transportation as needed.
• Maintain a safe environment and comply with regulations.

Our DSPs are the STARS of our organization who provide caregiving to the people we support.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB DUTIES:Performing personal care tasks, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, and ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks.Promote and Implement each individual’s person-centered goals and objectives for the Day Habilitation portion of the Individualized Plan of Care (POC).Ensuring client safety and maintaining a safe environmentAssisting with toileting, including bedpans, urinals, and commode chairsReminding/assisting client with self-administration of medications (with proper training)Encouraging self-help activitiesReporting changes in client's condition or family situation to the officeDocumenting services providedTransporting clientsOther duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to work in a group home, home-like settingAbility to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the companyAbility to handle physical aspects of the job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of timeMust maintain state regulatory certifications, as required by state/program requirementsMedication Administration as required by state/program requirementsHigh school degree/GED required21 years of age or older must have a valid Alabama driver's license and must be insurable through the agency’s insurance carrierCertified Nursing Assistant a plusMust be cleared through the Dept. of Human Resources Child Abuse & Neglect Registry as well as the ABI/FBI and pass all required pre-employment and background screenings.Glenwood is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
