Job summary

Northwood Space is seeking a DSP Engineer to own modem algorithms and model development for our next-generation radio platform. You will work with RF, FPGA, and systems engineers within an in-house SDR and FPGA infrastructure to implement end-to-end modem functionality.

You will define waveform processing chains, partition work across FPGA and embedded compute, and validate performance under challenging channel conditions for our satellite ground network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or related field.
• Experience developing modems or waveform processing chains for SDR or RF systems.
• Strong understanding of digital communications theory including CCSDS, BPSK/QPSK/OQPSK, DVB-S2 and Doppler effects.
• Ability to take waveform algorithms from analysis/prototyping to working implementation.
• Understand how modem design interacts with RF and hardware constraints.
• Experience with testing and performance characterization of communication systems.
• Experience with bit-level verification on FPGAs is a plus.
• Familiarity with GNU Radio and SDR frameworks is a plus.
• Experience with real-time signal processing.
• C++ or Rust systems programming skills; Rust preferred.
• Experience with beamforming, radar or EW systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the definition and development of modem algorithms end-to-end.
• Define waveform processing chains for in-house SDR or FPGA.
• Partition and implement modem functions across FPGA and embedded/host compute.
• Collaborate with RF, FPGA, and systems engineers to validate performance.
• Develop and run tests to characterize modem performance in realistic channels.
