Job summary

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson’s Department For Persons With Disabilities seeks a Direct Support Professional/Residential Counselor to help residents with daily living, personal care, and safety in group homes. Strong teamwork and compassion are essential in this role.

Full-time position with a 40-hour week (Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun 3pm–11pm). We offer paid training, medical/dental/vision benefits, life insurance, a 403B plan with company matching, and generous paid time off.

Qualifications

• Be motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of residents.
• Experience with ID/DD population is a plus.
• Requires HS diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Help meet residents’ personal health, safety and welfare in the group home.
• Assist and supervise in personal care, bathing, toileting, cleaning, cooking and life skills.
• Administer and assist with medication administration as directed.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and residents.
• Drive residents to/from day programs or community activities using agency vehicles.
• Document daily services provided and participate in community activities.

Regular Salary: $20.49 per hour Mon-Fri and $21.49 per hour (shifts beginning 11PM Friday to 11PM on Sunday). Non-work time will be paid at the base rate.

What’s the role of a Direct Support Professional/Residential Counselor (DSP)?

• Residential Counselor is a direct care professional whose primary responsibility is to help meet the personal health, safety and welfare of the people living in the group home.


• You will assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care areas i.e. bathing/toileting; participate and/or supervise in cleaning, cooking and life skills.


• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.


• You must communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the individuals living in the homes.


• Drive residents to/from day programs, outside/within their community using agency vehicles.


• This position requires daily documentation of services provided.


• Assist with fun community-based activities.

Job Requirements

• The ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and our emergency evacuation procedures.

Full Time-Shift: 40 hours per week, (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3pm-11pm)
