ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Arc San Francisco is a non-profit service and advocacy organization for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families living in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties. We currently serve over 700 clients with diverse backgrounds, ages, and disabilities, all seeking greater self-determination, dignity, and quality of life. Our goal is to support individuals to maximize their potential, live meaningful lives, and integrate into the community. We offer services in independent living, skills building, employment training, and creative expression, emphasizing education, partnerships, and community resources.

Description

Creates a learning environment for adults with developmental disabilities to learn independence at home, in the community, or at work. Designs instruction based on measurable objectives, maintains records, analyzes barriers, and develops alternative plans. Provides remote and in-person instruction, may travel to support clients, and coordinates service delivery and resource development for client needs. Services include:

  • Artistic Development
  • Volunteer Work instruction
  • Mobility Training
  • Sensory Activities
  • Social and Recreational Activities
  • Leadership and Community Involvement
  • Aging Support and Academic Activities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group instruction remotely and in person.
  • Implement instructional plans at community or residential sites.
  • Prepare and facilitate client program reviews and goal planning.
  • Develop aesthetic concepts through art instruction, demonstrating techniques in various art forms.
  • Adapt curriculum to client needs, instruct in proper use of tools, and showcase client artwork.
  • Maintain records, update plans, and participate in meetings and training.
  • Advocate for clients and support community partnerships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge of art theory and techniques; high school diploma or equivalent; experience or interest in working with adults with developmental disabilities; adult education or special education certification preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite preferred; flexible schedule; understanding of normalization principles; good communication skills; valid California driver’s license and insurability; teaching experience a plus.

Physical Demands

Repetitive keyboard and phone use; walking, standing, bending, stooping; direct client interaction. Accommodations available for disabilities.
