Tundra Technical Solutions is seeking a Lead or Senior DSP Algorithms Engineer for a premier aerospace and defense client in El Segundo, CA. You will design and implement space-based communication systems and lead technical efforts across the lifecycle from concept through in-orbit operations.

Requirements include a BS in engineering or related field, 3+ years in DSP and digital communications, 5+ years in the field, and 1+ year with FPGAs/ASICs, plus experience with MATLAB/Simulink.

Job description

A leading aerospace and defense organization is seeking DSP Algorithms Engineers (Lead or Senior) to join its Space, Intelligence, and Weapons Systems team in El Segundo, CA. This organization develops major commercial and government satellite and ground programs supporting communications, national defense, and other critical missions.

As a DSP Algorithms Engineer, you will design and develop state-of-the-art space-based communication systems for commercial, civil, and national security applications. You will work within a highly motivated engineering team supporting domestic and international customers on advanced satellite systems.

Project assignments typically span the full unit lifecycle, including concept studies, system definition, trade studies, development, integration, test, and operational support. Engineers collaborate with customers, suppliers, program management, integration and test teams, and senior technical leaders.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design and develop next-generation RF and digital satellite communication systems.
  • Develop and verify multi-rate, fixed-point signal processing algorithms.
  • Conduct performance analysis of signal processing models.
  • Perform waveform development and characterization.
  • Conduct trade studies and system evaluations.
  • Support integration and testing of payloads and spacecraft from unit-level testing through in-orbit operations.
  • Support HDL-level design and verification activities.
  • Perform detailed system design and verification.
  • Lead engineering teams and technical efforts.
  • Lead Internal Research & Development (IR&D) initiatives.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Digital Communications algorithms and techniques, including equalization, turbo/Viterbi coding and decoding, channel estimation, filter design, and resampling theory.
  • 3+ years of experience using MATLAB and/or Simulink.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital communications and signal processing theory.
  • 3+ years of systems engineering experience, including requirements definition, allocation, verification, architecture development, and trade studies.
  • 1+ years of experience working with FPGAs and/or ASICs.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, waveform generators, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers.
  • 9+ years of related professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
