Job description

DSHS OHBH – Licensed Practical Nurse 2

Join our team at Olympic Heritage Behavioral Health (OHBH) in Tukwila as a Licensed Practical Nurse 2 and play a vital role in supporting individuals receiving behavioral health services. In this position, you will provide direct nursing care, administer medications and treatments, monitor patient health and safety, and collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams to promote recovery and well-being. Your work will help ensure patients receive compassionate, high-quality care in a safe and therapeutic environment while supporting their path toward stabilization and recovery.

Some Of What You'll Do
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, while monitoring, documenting, and reporting changes in patient conditions.
  • Perform routine nursing care activities, including obtaining vital signs, conducting health assessments, and providing first aid as needed.
  • Utilize nursing equipment and electronic medication administration systems to support safe and effective patient care.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and promote independence through therapeutic interactions and support.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques and participate in behavioral interventions to maintain a safe treatment environment.
  • Assist with patient containment, restraint procedures, and emergency responses in accordance with established protocols and under nursing supervision.
  • Orient patients to the treatment environment, provide adaptive living skills education, and transport patients to on- and off-campus appointments and activities.
Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities:
  • Experience providing nursing care in a behavioral health, psychiatric, or mental health treatment setting.
  • Knowledge of medication administration practices, patient assessment techniques, and nursing documentation standards.
  • Proficiency using nursing equipment and electronic health record and medication administration systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with patients, coworkers, multidisciplinary teams, and the public.
  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations and utilize therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques to support patient safety.
Who should apply?

We Are Searching For Professionals Who Have

  • A current Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); AND
  • One (1) year of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Additional information:
  • Work schedule: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM, with an alternating weekly schedule.
    • Week 1: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
    • Week 2: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
  • King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
About Olympic Heritage Behavioral Health (OHBH)

Olympic Heritage Behavioral Health in Tukwila, Washington, is a 74-bed state-operated facility acquired by DSHS in 2023 to expand access to psychiatric care. Serving civilly committed patients, OHBH provides evidence-based treatment through a multidisciplinary team of psychiatric, nursing, rehabilitation, and social work professionals. With a focus on stabilization and recovery, OHBH helps patients manage mental health symptoms and prepare for a successful transition back into the community.
