Job description

DSHS FFA Laundry Worker 2


Department of Social and Health Services is seeking a Laundry Worker 2 to join their team in Buckley, WA. You will assist in meeting the needs of our customers with high-quality textiles in a timely cost-effective manner in an industrial laundry environment. Operate washers, dryers, flat iron, and fold clothing.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.


Some of what you'll do:

  • Coordinate and perform routine laundry work and operate a variety of laundry equipment.
  • Process linen for the entire institution to the expected standard of the Appointing Authority.
  • Perform tasks necessary to the daily decontamination of linen such as sorting, washer and dryer deck activities as well as processing, folding and filling outgoing orders.
  • Operate large commercial washers and dryers.
  • Change chemicals as needed.
  • Use the ironer/cross folding machine.
  • Separate linen into correct baskets for washing.

What we're looking for:

  • Ability to learn how to use all laundry chemicals correctly.
  • Ability to learn how to operate laundry machines, extractors and mangle correctly.
  • Ability to learn how to wash, dry and iron institution clothing and linens.
  • Ability to count, mark, sort, fold, bundle and tie laundry.
  • Ability to receive instructions, assimilate the information and act according to those instructions.
  • Effective communication with management, peers, and clients as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position.
