DS Telecom Lead — MDF/IDF Room Design & Build

Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. seeks a DS Comm Lead to evaluate, design, and oversee telecommunications rooms (MDF/IDF/CELs) and related installations at Eielson AFB in Alaska.

You will manage teams across multiple agencies and subs to deliver compliant room builds, cable pathways, and grounding aligned with UFC and DoW standards. Expect 5+ years in telecom environments, strong leadership, and the ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent; 5+ years of experience
• 4–7 years’ experience with telecommunications rooms, data center buildouts, or ISP infrastructure
• Experience managing cabling, rack installation, or structured cabling teams
• Knowledge of grounding/bonding, power specs, equipment standards, and room environmental requirements
• Experience with AFCENT, AFNET, or equivalent DoW telecomm environments (preferred)
• Ability to obtain Interim Secret Security Clearance
• Certifications: BICSI Technician, Installer 2, or RCDD (preferred)
• Certifications: Security+ CE (8140 equivalent) (preferred)
• Certifications: FOA CFOT (beneficial for fiber termination work)

Responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site surveys documenting power, cooling, bonding/grounding, pathways, and room readiness
• Develop layout designs including rack plans, cable management, grounding/bonding, electrical circuits, and equipment placement
• Manage GDIT, Agency, and Subcontractor labor performing room buildouts, rack installation, cable routing, and grounding
• Ensure compliance with UFC, TIA/EIA, I3A, and DoW telecommunications room standards
• Coordinate with base civil engineering for facility upgrades or modifications
• Support QA inspections and validation of deliverables and as‑builts
• Work closely with Network, Fiber Optic, ISP, and OSP teams for integration of infrastructure
• Participate in design reviews and customer briefings as a SME
