Summary/Objective:
Promotes the company mission statement byworking with Superintendents to produce a quality project on time and on budget. Harper XS is seeking a proven, detail-oriented drywall finisher/painter to join our team long-term. This role will include sealing joints, repairing cracks, and smoothing imperfections on walls and ceilings to create surfaces that are suitable for final treatment. You should also ensure that all supplies are used safely.

Harper XS projects typically occur within active facilities and occupied spaces. The drywall/painter will be responsible for coordinating with clients and their occupants daily, adhering to client specific training and/or requirements that pertain to working within their facilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Joining drywall panels using tape and plaster.
  • Repairing cracks and any other damage to the drywall panels.
  • Concealing imperfections or exposed irregularities in the drywall surface.
  • Layering plaster or spackle with trowels to create a flat surface.
  • Sanding down rough areas on the wall to create a smooth surface.
  • Skimming the surface with a final layer of plaster in preparation for finishing work.
  • Managing and maintaining all the required equipment for the job.
  • Keeping your supervisor abreast of your progress and reporting any job-related issues.
  • Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
  • Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
  • Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster).
  • Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture.
  • Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools.
  • Apply varnish and other finishes.
  • Calculate costs and negotiate prices.
  • Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions.
  • Ensure that all equipment and materials are used safely and effectively.

Competencies:

  • Good basic math skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them.
  • Good knowledge of the tools, materials, and methods used in drywall and ceiling finishing.
  • Ability to interpret construction blueprints.
  • Knowledge of the applicable safety guidelines.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Conscientious with great attention to detail.
  • A “Can Do” attitude.
  • Willing to help others as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship.
  • 2+ years as a painter/drywaller.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Work Environment: This position is required to work in a variety of conditions relative to construction jobsite environments and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, as assigned. Exposure to weather, heat, etc. is expected.

Physical Demands:

  • Physically fit and able to work long hours as needed.
  • Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders etc.

Travel Required: Travel to/from multiple jobsites, projects, and offices. Little overnight or weekend travel. Must have a valid US driver’s license.
