Job summary

Kids for the Future in Maine is seeking a dedicated drywall finisher to join our factory team. You will finish drywall surfaces in modular home units by applying joint compound, embedding tape, and creating smooth, paint-ready finishes in a controlled shop setting.

This full-time, non-exempt role requires physical stamina, ability to lift 40-60 lb buckets, and comfort working with noise and repetitive motions. Safety gear and training provided as part of a production environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience with drywall finishing, mudding, and taping.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power sanders.
  • Knowledge of different finishing levels (Level 1–Level 5).
  • Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
  • Physical ability to lift materials, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive motions.

Responsibilities

  • Apply joint compound to seams, joints, and screw holes in drywall panels.
  • Embed tape over joints to reinforce seams.
  • Build up multiple coats to create a smooth surface.
  • Sand and feather joints to achieve a uniform finish.
  • Repair imperfections such as cracks, dents, or gaps.
  • Ensure surfaces meet quality standards for painting or texturing.
  • Work efficiently within production timelines typical of modular construction.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use PPE as required.

Description

Responsible for finishing drywall surfaces in modular home units by applying joint compound (mud), embedding tape, and creating smooth, paint-ready finishes. Work is typically performed in a controlled shop or factory environment where modular sections are assembled before transport.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply joint compound to seams, joints, and screw holes in drywall panels
  • Embed tape (paper or mesh) over joints to reinforce seams
  • Build up multiple coats of compound to create a smooth, even surface
  • Sand and feather joints to achieve a uniform finish
  • Repair imperfections such as cracks, dents, or gaps
  • Ensure surfaces meet quality standards for painting or texturing
  • Work efficiently within production timelines typical of modular construction
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Follow all safety procedures and use PPE as required

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in modular or manufactured home construction
  • Familiarity with factory-based workflows and team assembly processes
  • Indoor factory or warehouse setting, with moderate to high noise levels.
  • Lifting, carrying and positioning (Joint compound buckets between 40-60lbs each), frequent lifting.
  • May involve working on partially assembled home sections
  • Exposure to drywall dust and construction materials - Frequent
  • Standing/walking 6-10+ hours/day, overtime may be required based on production demand.
  • Repetitive arm/hand motion (taping, mudding, sanding) - Frequent
  • Reaching overhead (ceilings, high walls) – Frequent
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching -Frequent
Outcome / Goal

Produce high-quality, smooth drywall finishes that meet or exceed standards for modular home installation and final interior finishing.
