TDS Telecom is hiring a Drop Installation Technician I in Wisconsin. The role involves general construction labor, transporting equipment, and installing drop facilities for fiber optics. You will set enclosures, label facilities, and assist with splicing while maintaining safety standards.

A $2,000 sign-on bonus is offered; residence within 60 minutes of Appleton or Green Bay is required. Candidates must have a valid driver's license, be able to pass Safety and customer-specific requirements,

• Complete all related paperwork.
• Provide assistance to field services technicians, as needed.

The Drop Installation Technician I performs the general labor associated with the installation of fiber optic drop facilities. Work is performed in accordance with state and local regulations in a safe manner.

This position is eligible for a $2,000 sign‑on bonus! (Payout terms apply)

Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from either Appleton, WI or Green Bay, WI.

Responsibilities

• Perform general construction labor.
• Assist with and perform transportation of required construction equipment to and from the worksite.
• Assist with placement of new drop facilities.
• Install and/or set enclosures (buried and aerial) vaults, pedestals, and handholes.
• Mark/label fiber optic and/or copper facilities.
• Assist with fiber splicing and repairs.

Required Qualifications

• Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS’s business needs, including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and their needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Other Qualifications

• Physical requirements may vary based on company needs: Ability to climb poles, ladders, towers, and other structures as needed. Ability to kneel, dig, lift, and pull.
• Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
• Upon hire, must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
• Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services.
• Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
• May require occasional travel.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed. May be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The associate must also be able to climb poles, ladders, towers or other structures. The associate is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may have to work in attics and crawl spaces, or high‑risk areas such as high voltage electrical, trenches, and manholes. The associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is at times loud.
