Job summary

USIC Locating Services, LLC is seeking Drop Bury Technicians to locate underground utilities at residential or commercial sites. The starting pay ranges from $24.00 per hour for new technicians to $29.00 per hour for those with substantial prior experience, with 100% paid training and a company vehicle provided.

You will work outdoors in various weather conditions, use electronic locating equipment, and document tickets and time in company software while prioritizing safety and quality across

Responsibilities

• Drop Bury Technicians are responsible for locating underground utilities (telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer) at residential or commercial job sites, locating safely and efficiently.
• After locating, utilize utility markings to prevent damage while burying coax and fiber optic cable lines.
• Thoroughly search designated areas, accurately mark utility locations, trench cable lines (typically 6-8 inches deep), complete driveway and sidewalk bores, and maintain accurate records/documentation.
• Photograph each locate and drop bury to ensure customer compliance.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills when interacting with customers, team members, and supervisors to ensure work is completed safely and to expectations.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, including OSHA and company guidelines.
• Operate equipment and use tools to trench or bore cable lines as required.
• Use company software to document time worked and identify located facilities and completed tickets for billing.
• Check equipment and supplies daily to ensure availability and operability.
• Coordinate with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and teammates to maintain good relations.

What We Need from You (Our Requirements)

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods
• Computer proficiency and ability to use electronic locating equipment
• Availability to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
• Ability to pass a drug screen (safety-sensitive position)
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
• Ability to walk long distances, bend, kneel, and lift up to 75 lbs; ability to work in confined spaces
• Ability to dig or bore 6-8 inches in depth for up to 100 feet using hand tools
• Ability to distinguish colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
• Ability to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, maps, and prints
• Clear communication with colleagues, customers, contractors, and property owners
• Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
• Previous utility industry/locating/drop bury experience or other outdoor work experience is beneficial but not required
• Experience with operating digging equipment (vibratory plows or boring machines) is preferred but not required
• Experience with operating fiber fusion splicers is highly preferred but not required
