Job summary

AutomationDirect seeks a Product Engineer to become the subject matter expert for our industrial control product lines, including PLCs, HMIs, drives, and motors. The role focuses on specifying, analyzing, testing, and troubleshooting products throughout their life cycle in an entrepreneurial environment.

The PE will partner with a Product Manager and collaborate across teams to grow the product line, manage requirements, and support new product introductions.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical or electrical engineering or 10+ years related experience.
• 7+ years in industrial control & automation; 10 years preferred.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, servos, and encoders desirable.
• CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks desirable.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Product ownership throughout the product life cycle from concept to obsolescence.
• Evaluate and test new products; create sample projects for demonstrations.
• Define product requirements (HW/SW); support new product introductions and documentation.
• Provide second-tier backline support during normal business hours and manage obsolescence.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams to grow the product line.
• Evaluate suppliers, technology roadmaps, and support capabilities.
• Travel as required (domestic and international).
