Job summary

AutomationDirect in Georgia is seeking a Controls Product Engineer for Drives & Motors to own product lifecycle and act as SME for AC/DC drives and motors. You will partner with a Product Manager to specify, test, and support products across PLCs, HMIs, drives and motion components.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, vendor evaluation, and market-driven development. Occasional domestic and international travel is expected, with a focus on quality and cost improvements.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical or electrical engineering or 10+ years related experience.
• 7+ years in industrial control & automation; 10 years preferred.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, servos, encoders.
• CAD experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks desirable.

Responsibilities

• Leverage your experience and product knowledge to select the best products to grow the product line and meet customer’s needs.
• Product ownership throughout the product life cycle.
• Evaluate and test new products and technologies. Create sample projects for demonstrating product functionality in a controls system.
• Support product through specifying product requirements (HW/SW), new product introductions, documentation, training, second tier backline support (only during normal business hours), and product obsolescence.
• Life-cycle projects to improve product quality or lower product cost.
• Supplier evaluation including product offering, technology roadmap, and support capabilities.
• Some scheduled domestic and international travel is required.
