Job summary

The Bizzell-Group New Haven Job Corps seeks an instructor to deliver Driver’s Education and related courses to students preparing for credentials. You will manage classes, track attendance, evaluate progress, and collaborate with staff to tailor curriculum to learner needs.

Strong communication, organizational skills, and dedication to student outcomes are required, with background in education and state teaching certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals with clear communication.
  • Ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences and manage classroom discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs in Driver’s Education, Workplace Communications, Employability Skills, or GED in a regular classroom.
  • Maintains student folders, attendance, evaluations, and test scores; forwards attendance records daily.
  • Promotes a positive classroom atmosphere and maximizes student motivation and discipline.
  • Coordinates curriculum development with Career Technical Education instructors.
  • Ensures safety, compliance with program guidelines, and supports graduation exercises.

About the Position

Prescribes individual and/or group lessons designed to assist students in learning drivers’ education. Provides instruction to students enrolled in Drivers Education, Workplace Communications, Employability Skills, or GED. Conducts and manages driver’s education classes.

The Position
  • Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instruction in the area of Drivers Education, Workplace Communications, Employability Skills, or GED.
  • Assists students with suspended licenses to resolve the problem.
  • Endeavors to promote a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting, ensuring maximum student motivation.
  • Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom in order to ensure maximum learning.
  • Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport.
  • Works directly with the Career Technical Education (CTE) instructors in coordinating curriculum development.
  • Utilizes all possible curricular resource available at the Center.
  • Makes adequate preparation for classroom.
  • Maintains students’ personal folders, recording personal data, including test scores, evaluations, attendance, incident reports, achievement awards, and any other pertinent information concerning students. Records and forwards daily attendance to Student Records and Attendance/Scheduling Clerk.
  • Participates in ESP’s (student evaluation performance); prepares SPERs timely and accurately; sets SMART goals.
  • Evaluates student employee’s performance in academics and employability skills. Provides regular feedback to student employees regarding appropriate employability skills.
  • Works toward meeting performance management goals to include specific driver licenses attained
  • Follows CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily
  • Assists with quarterly graduation exercises
  • Complies with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures
  • Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
  • Models, mentors, monitors appropriate Career Success Standards
  • Participation in PRH mandated staff training is mandatory. Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulation. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, groups of managers, students and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw related conclusion. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Word, Power Point and Excel.

Experience

Minimum of one to two years related experience in education.

Certificates

Certified to teach in state of where the center is located (may be waived by Regional Office, but must pursue certification). Valid State Driver’s License.
