Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America in Batavia, IL is seeking a professional truck/spotter driver to move and park trailers, load/unload as needed, and support shipping and receiving operations. Candidates must have a current CDL Class A license and be able to meet DOT requirements.

Responsibilities include log keeping, safety inspections, minor fleet tasks, and adhering to DFA safety and GMP policies. Hours are 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM with pay at $31.50 per hour.

  • Move and position trucks and trailers to optimize shipping and receiving.

  • Maintain trailer movement logs and inventories.
  • Perform pre/post trip inspections and basic fleet tasks.
  • Ensure yard cleanliness and wash exterior of trucks when required.
  • Complete route deliveries as needed and comply with safety policies.

Job description

General Purpose

Drive truck or tractor at vehicle parking, yard or docking areas to move, position or park trucks and trailers to facilitate shipping and receiving functions. Transport trucks and trailers for repairs, as necessary, according to policies and procedures and safety protocols. May also operate wash bay using all necessary equipment to clean tractors and trailers. Keep the yard neat and orderly.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform trailer movement according to prioritization to optimize plant or warehouse efficiencies and production needs
  • Hook, unhook and move trucks to and from the service department and around dock area.
  • Spot or position loaded and unloaded trailers at assigned dock space for unloading or loading.
  • Maintain accurate trailer and inventory movement log.
  • Follow steps to ensure proper operation and perform periodic preventive maintenance including. pre and post trip inspections of spotter truck equipment.
  • Perform duties required to ensure that assigned area is sanitary and clean (empty trash cans and sweep outside dock door areas assigned).
  • Wash exterior of trucks and trailers if appropriate for yard location.
  • Complete sales route deliveries and/or over-the-road routes, as needed.
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety, DOT, and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity and accidents and injuries.
  • Attend all driver workshops and training sessions.

  • Follow and maintain all safety driving practices, guidelines and procedures outlined by the site.
  • Perform shared warehouse task as instructed by manager and/or supervisor based on priority:
  1. Help with minor fleet repairs as needed.
  2. Help with deliver cart repair process as needed.
  3. Internal/External driver check-in/check -out process (which include driver sign -in, trailer temperature check, help coordinate and communicate driver door assignment with use of radio, and driver sign-out)

PAY: $31.50

HOURS: 2:00PM- 11:00PM

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Tractor/trailer experience, within the last five years preferred.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
  • Meet all DOT requirements.
  • Meet Dairy Farmers of America Motor Vehicle Record requirements.
  • Certification and/or License - Current CDL (Class A) license in state of residence; current tanker endorsement if needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of DOT transportation regulations related to lawful operation.
  • Able to work safely and recognize sudden hazards and adjust accordingly.
  • Able to use computers and technology needed for the job.
  • Skills with math sufficient to calculate load size.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
