Position Summary:

The Driver and Warehouse Associate is responsible for running daily distribution of product to OFS' network of community food partners as well as making daily donation pickups, product deliveries to and from organizations and ensuring all products are stored appropriately. They will ensure that product is distributed safely and efficiently and will be responsible for the collection of data on outgoing product. Outside of distribution times, the Driver and Warehouse Associate will assist the Warehouse Manager in keeping a clean work environment and efficient operation.

Essential Functions:

  • Route Pick-Up & Delivery
    • Operate assigned refrigerated or dry-van truck on established daily routes to pick up donations from grocery stores, distributors, and other vendors.
    • Deliver food and non-food items for OFS program locations according to scheduled routes.
    • Inspect vehicle and cargo prior to departure, verifying that all loads are secured and that temperature controls (for refrigerated trucks) are set correctly.
  • Agency Equity Deliveries & Extra Pick-Ups
    • Coordinate with the Agency Distribution Coordinator to schedule and execute agency equity deliveries-transporting food and supplies to partner agencies that qualify under our equity guidelines.
    • Perform unscheduled "extra pick-ups" when urgent needs arise (e.g., unexpected donations, last-minute agency requests).
    • Facilitate vehicle drop-off and pick-up for maintenance (e.g., oil changes, inspections), ensuring minimal disruption to the delivery schedule.
  • Vehicle Unloading & Inventory Handoff
    • Upon arrival at OFS warehouse, work alongside the Inventory Specialist (IS) to unload all inbound donations and returns.
    • Verify contents against delivery manifests and communicate any discrepancies (damaged or missing items) immediately to the IS.
    • Help stage unloaded product in designated receiving zones (dry storage, cooler, or freezer) for subsequent inventory processing.
  • Warehouse Support & Fill-In Duties
    • When not on active routes, assist the Warehouse team with general tasks-such as pallet-building, order staging, and rotating stock in cooler/freezer areas.
    • Collaborate with Warehouse Associates to maintain a clean, organized workspace, including sweeping floors, disposing of packaging materials, and stacking empty pallets.
    • Step in to cover warehouse shifts or special projects (inventory counts, forklift operations if certified) during peak volume periods or when staffing gaps occur.
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., air brake, refrigerated unit) at all times; notify HR immediately if any license or certification status changes.
    • Follow all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, OFS vehicle maintenance schedules, and pre-trip/post-trip inspection procedures.
    • Utilize proper lifting techniques when loading/unloading cargo; wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g., high-visibility vest, gloves, steel-toe boots).
    • Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues to the Food Bank Operations Director and Warehouse Manager immediately and complete any required incident paperwork.
    • Ensure all vehicles are clean at the end of each day.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating refrigerated trucks (temperature-controlled) strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a warehouse environment with a focus on safety.
  • Current forklift certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a CDL-licensed driver, preferably in a food-distribution or nonprofit setting.
  • Class B license or greater with air brake endorsement required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Certification and drug test.
  • Must be able to show no license revocation, suspension, DUI/DWI, careless or reckless driving history.
  • Ability to connect with diverse types of organizations: schools, businesses, government, faith organizations, etc.
  • Clear verbal communication to interact with agency staff, vendors, and warehouse personnel. Basic written skills for completing delivery logs and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Willingness to pivot between driving duties and warehouse tasks. Able to work collaboratively with all team members.
  • Disciplined approach to maintaining delivery timelines.
  • Proficiency reading maps, using GPS units, and planning efficient delivery routes.
  • Ability to be on one's feet for 4 plus hours a day.
  • Strong commitment to following safety protocols, FMCSA regulations, and OFS vehicle maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. repeatedly and up to 75 lbs. occasionally; comfortable performing manual unloading/loading.

Special Requirements:

  • Flexibility in working hours for occasional special events after-hours or weekend activities.
  • Willingness to volunteer for other OFS duties that don't fall under regular job duties.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Primarily driving a truck with extended periods seated.
  • Frequent exposure to 32 °F–40 °F cooler and 0 °F–10 °F freezer spaces when unloading perishable donations.
  • Occasional outdoor work during pickups/deliveries in varying weather conditions (rain, snow, heat).
  • Regular lifting, bending, and carrying of boxes/trays weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Climbing in and out of truck cabs multiple times per day.
  • Standing, walking, and operating pallet jacks for unloading/loading tasks.
  • Required to wear closed-toe, non-slip safety shoes, high-visibility vest, and gloves. Additional PPE (e.g., ear protection) provided as needed.
