Job summary

Merle Boes, Inc. is seeking a professional CDL A driver to maintain vehicles, follow traffic laws, and ensure on-time delivery of materials to customers. You will plan economical routes, load and unload shipments, and complete documentation accurately.

The role requires defensive driving, knowledge of DOT regulations, ability to work independently, lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays. HazMat/Tanker endorsements are preferred with pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • CDL Class A with HazMat and Tanker endorsements required/preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving.
  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Planning route to insure most economical use of time and equipment
  • Load, transport, and unload each shipment in an efficient manner
  • Completing appropriate documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Communicate with dispatch and equipment managers
  • Performing routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and report needed repairs to supervisor
  • Maintaining a clean equipment interior and exterior
  • Mechanically competent and have firm understanding of their equipment
  • Performing all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
  • Reading and filling out monthly safety meeting requirements
  • Must be able to pass a random drug and alcohol test per DOT guidelines
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job description

Requirements
  • Must possess a valid State Driver’s License with Class A CDL with HAZMAT Endorsement and Tanker Endorsements
  • One (1) year relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability of the job
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving
  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
  • Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT Physical and Drug Screen
  • Must be able to sit/drive for short or long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 50IBS repetitively
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays
  • Reliable time management
  • A strong work ethic with a commitment to succeed
