Job summary

The SYGMA Network is seeking a Driver Helper in Denver, CO to assist the driver in unloading product at customer locations according to invoices and company policies. You will develop customer relationships and learn routes on current bids while supporting route paperwork and safety practices.

This role requires reading and speaking English, a high school diploma or GED, and physical ability to lift heavy boxes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Previous food distribution and frozen food handling experience preferred.
• Must be able to read and write clearly.
• Commercial Vehicle Drivers must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.

• Assist the driver in the pre-trip and coupling of equipment to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate.
• Provide assistance in routing with map reading and giving directions on route.
• Assist with delivery set-up at the customer location, including all three compartments of the trailer, and direct the driver for safe set-up.
• Assist driver in backing situations by getting out of the truck and watching for hazards, communicating via hand signals or verbal communication.

Job Summary

Primary Duties

• Unload product according to customer specifications and SYGMA delivery procedures at customer locations.
• Develop and establish good relationships with customers by providing excellent, courteous service.
• Learn routes on current bid.
• Assist in all aspects of route paperwork.
• Work safely by following SYGMA’s Preferred Work Methods.
• Other duties as assigned by Management.
• Attend CDL School when scheduled.

Additional Duties That May Be Assigned

• Assist the driver in the pre‑trip and coupling of equipment to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate. Assist with ensuring tandems are properly and safely locked out to meet applicable weight laws.
• Provide assistance in routing with map reading and giving directions on route. Help with low‑clearance situations, directing the driver under an underpass to ensure proper clearance.
• Assist with delivery set‑up at the customer location, including all three compartments of the trailer, and direct the driver for safe set‑up.
• Assist driver in backing situations by getting out of the truck and watching for hazards, communicating via hand signals or verbal communication.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience. Previous food distribution and frozen food handling experience preferred. Must be able to read and write clearly.

Physical Demands

• Work is medium to heavy. Half the day is spent sitting in a tractor/trailer unit. Must climb into trailer, lift 50‑lb boxes frequently, lift up to 75‑lb boxes occasionally, and move product on a two‑wheeler. Must communicate clearly to customers.

Mental/Visual Demands

• Must be able to read at a distance close to the eyes and at arm’s length, with or without correction. May be required to back/direct driver through hand signals or verbal communication.

Working Conditions

Activities occur both inside (protected from weather conditions) and outside. Position involves roads, mechanical and electrical hazards.

Equipment Operated

• Two‑wheeled dolly.
• Pallet jack.

License or Certification

• A valid driver’s license.
• CDL‑A permit.
