Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: A Driver Trainee will be trained by Republic Services to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and then assume the responsibilities of a Driver within the company. The trainee will complete a comprehensive training program and be provided resources to take the CDL exam. After obtaining the CDL, the trainee will transition into a Driver role in one of the company's lines of business, such as Residential, Commercial, Industrial, or Roll-Off.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Successfully complete Republic Services’ CDL training program, including classroom study, on-route training, driving experience, and resources (including a truck loan) to pass the state CDL exam.
  2. Complete at least twelve (12) months of employment with Republic Services after obtaining a CDL.
  3. Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspections of the assigned vehicle according to company policy, reporting safety issues as needed.
  4. Safely operate a heavy or commercial truck along designated routes, following route sheets and maps, and service customers as assigned.
  5. Operate manual and/or automatic controls safely to lift, load refuse, operate the compactor, and dispose of collected material at designated facilities.
  6. Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them according to departmental procedures.
  7. Monitor waste for unacceptable materials continuously.
  8. Ensure the operational readiness of assigned vehicles, cleaning waste from the packer blade and truck body as needed.
  9. Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  10. Perform all Driver responsibilities in one of the company's lines of business after obtaining a CDL.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • No legal prohibitions to obtaining a commercial driver’s license.
