Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Driver’s Education Instructor

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director, Marietta Community School
Driver’s Education Specialist

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Certified position - part time hourly employee at will.
FLSA Status: Exempt

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides safe high quality instruction in driving to high school students offered in 30 hours of classroom and/or six hours behind-the-wheel. Demonstrates positive customer service with high school students, their parents and the community at large. Complies, monitors, interprets, and implements all policies set forth by Marietta City Schools and Marietta/Cobb Driver’s Education.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Follows all procedures/policies set forth by Marietta City Schools and in the Marietta/Cobb Driver’s Education handbook.
  • Follows all curriculum and schedules created by the administration of Marietta/Cobb Driver’s Education.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance, grades and completion of course.
  • Ensures the safety of all children at all times and never leaves students unattended.
  • Communicates with the site supervisor, Fleet Manager and/or Driver’s Education Specialist to ensure a comfortable and safe learning environment.
  • Requests students for driving from the Driver’s Education office, calls to schedule appointments in a timely manner, and drives each student for 3 appointments at two hours each.
  • Completes paperwork and submits for data entry, payment, and to be maintained in the student records.
  • Follows policy for checking out and returning vehicles. Reports any vehicle problems to the Fleet Manager.
  • Follows procedures for fueling and maintains records for usage.
  • Keeps cars and parking area clean and car lot locked at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

Experience: Minimum of two years of K-12 classroom experience.

Certification: State of Georgia Driver Education Instructor Certification-Required
Georgia Educator's Certificate-Preferred

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Has a strong understanding, knowledge and command of positive and effective pedagogical theories and practices.
  • Knows how to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Maintains accurate and timely communication with the Driver’s Education Specialist.
  • The ability to communicate clearly.
  • The ability to maintain good, positive public relations with the general public.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and files.
  • Ability to perform duties within limited guidelines that require some independent judgement.
  • Understands, demonstrates and stresses professional practices and confidentiality.
  • Proficient computer skills for all assignments.

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, turning head and body, carrying, pushing, and /or pulling; constant listening skills, speaking skills, effective communication required, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 20% walking/lifting, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a classroom environment or a Driver’s Education vehicle and requires interaction with the general public and some work outdoors.
