  • Operate a residential/recycling collection truck and ancillary equipment.

Job description

Join to apply for the Driver Residential role at Waste Industries.

The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate a residential/recycling collection truck, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect waste and recyclables.
  2. Load waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the vehicle.
  3. Operate equipment on the truck to compact trash.
  4. Perform safety inspections and complete reports daily.
  5. Report mechanical issues immediately.
  6. Maintain route quality standards.
  7. Follow safety standards and regulations.
  8. Keep the vehicle clean.
  9. Identify and remove prohibited waste items.
  10. Manage assigned Helper(s) if applicable.
  11. Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
  12. Wear all required PPE at all times.
  13. Report accidents or incidents immediately.
  14. Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  15. Keep accurate service records.
  16. Maintain inventory of containers and parts.
  17. Work with supervisors to improve routing efficiency.
  18. May require overtime.
  19. Attend safety and branch meetings.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Adaptability and willingness to improve.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Coordination of limbs for operating equipment.
  • Adherence to safety policies.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, smell.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus.
  • Lift/move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Sitting up to 75% of the time.
  • Work in loud conditions.
Working Conditions
  • Exposed to loud noise, weather, mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes.
  • Primarily outdoor work.
  • Route away from the branch location.
  • Occasional high precarious places.
  • High traffic conditions.
  • Loud environment.
