Job summary

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, Inc. seeks a dedicated Home Delivered Meals Driver to deliver meals and holiday packages to frail, homebound elderly clients across Queens and nearby areas of Brooklyn.

You will pick up meals, deliver them, remind clients to refrigerate if not consumed, and keep mileage logs. Requires a valid NY driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds; bilingual abilities are a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid New York State Driver’s License (Class D) and provide a printout of annual driving record.
• Must obtain defensive driving certificate within 6 months of employment.
• One year driving experience with no more than one moving violation within 24 months; no DWI.
• Must present driving record abstract annually.
• Ability to drive for long periods and to get in/out of vehicle frequently.
• Must obtain defensive driving certificate within 6 months of employment.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Must travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
• Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Contact program office if a client does not answer the door and follow instructions.

• Keep daily gasoline and mileage records.
• Pickup and return vehicle to parking place daily.
• Operate and maintain a 2-way radio in the agency vehicle.

Job description

For over 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness.

Home Delivered Meals Programprovides meals to the homebound elderly residing in Queens. The program provides one hot meal and one cold pack to clients to improve the quality of their lives. Meals include Kosher, non-Kosher, halal, Caribbean, Korean, Chinese, South Asian, and Mediterranean cuisines.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Deliver Meals and holiday packages to frail and homebound elderly clients in the Community.

• Pick up food cooler/bags and deliver meals to predetermined route of homebound clients.
• Deliver the meal in person face to face and remind clients to refrigerate the meals if not consumed immediately.
• Contact program office immediately when a client does not answer the door and follow instructions given accordingly.
• Report to program office any observable problems or changes regarding the client and/or any significant information pertaining to the client.
• Keep daily gasoline and mileage records.
• Pick up and return vehicle to parking place daily.

• Operate and maintain a 2-way radio in the agency vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid New York State Driver’s License (Class D) and provision of printout of annual Driving Record from Motor Vehicle Bureau.
• Must obtain defensive driving certificate within 6 months of employment.
• One (1) year driving experience with no more than one moving violation within a 24-month period, no driving while intoxicated convictions.
• Must present abstract of driving record annually.
• Ability to drive vehicle for long periods of time.
• Ability to get in and out of vehicle frequently.
• Must obtain defensive driving certificate within 6 months of employment.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
