Job description

Under the supervision of the Mobile Operations and the day-to-day work direction of the mobile or center charge nurse, the Driver Mobile Assistant operates a self-contained mobile blood collection unit, setting up at remote blood collection (mobile) sites and returning to the Blood Center.

What you will do

At mobile locations, act as Donor Room Assistant under the direction of the on-site supervisor / charge nurse, including, but not limited to:

  1. Keep confidential records about donor medical history card and unit numbering.
  2. Escort donors and assist with donors who have reactions.
  3. Operate self-contained mobile blood collection unit, setup at remote blood collection (mobile) sites, and return to Blood Center (Class B driver’s license required).
  4. Responsible for keeping mobile units clean, operational, gassed, and containing adequate supplies and equipment. Vehicles and equipment must be maintained to be ready for emergency dispatch. Inventory and order supplies are included on mobile units.
  5. Load, transport, assemble, and dismantle mobile equipment, medical supply boxes, and computers for mobiles at various locations. Rearrange furniture at mobile sites when necessary.
  6. Ensure all equipment on mobile units (donor beds, equipment boxes) is always operational. Report malfunctioning equipment and coordinate repairs. Operate vehicles within legal limits at all times.
  7. Responsible for deliveries between the blood center and mobile units to facilitate efficient operations.
  8. Transport blood to the component laboratory, ensuring proper use of transport boxes/coolers and maintaining temperature quality control. Prepare and distribute supplies and equipment as required.
  9. Complete various support activities related to blood collection as directed by supervisory staff.
  10. Train new drivers in all aspects of the job, including driving and DRA responsibilities. Comply with safety, health, and confidentiality policies, including HIPAA compliance.
  11. Operate in areas where exposure to bloodborne pathogens may occur, following safety protocols.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: 1-2 years Class B driving experience with a valid license and good driving record required; experience driving a 50-foot vehicle preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective communication in English, ability to lift 50-75 pounds, pass color-blind and drug/alcohol screening tests.

Licenses and Certifications

California Driver’s License (Class B) required upon hire.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Includes frequent walking, occasional sitting, standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, and lifting. Exposure to biohazards, extreme temperatures, noise, and chemicals. Must pass a color blindness test.
