Job description

We are looking for a Driver License Examiner to join our team at the Hazleton Driver License Center. In this crucial role, you will evaluate the driving skills and qualifications of both commercial and non-commercial license applicants. In this position, you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as evaluating the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards. This involves administering vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments. A key responsibility will be conducting knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses to verify applicants' comprehension of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs. You will oversee pre-trip, skills, and driving tests according to departmental guidelines, and review applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraud. It is essential to verify the authenticity of various documents, such as birth certificates and immigration papers, while accessing databases to confirm the validity of identity documents to support ongoing fraud prevention efforts.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as needed
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • This position requires employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
