Job summary

Schillings in Cedar Lake, IN seeks a Driver Helper to support daily logistics operations. This full-time role involves assisting drivers, performing inspections, and ensuring safe loading of materials for customers.

You will work outside in all weather, lift up to 80 lbs, and communicate with the Logistics Manager to complete tasks while upholding company policies. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance and 401k with profit sharing.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver's license.
• Able to lift 50–80 lbs daily and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicle and equipment daily; report maintenance needed.
• Keep equipment clean and organized.
• Load trucks per sales order.
• Secure loads and assist drivers in unloading.
• Assist in unloading semi-trucks as needed.
• Communicate with Logistics Manager to complete tasks.
• Follow company policies and procedures.

Job description

Great news! Schillings is currently looking for a Driver Helper at our Cedar Lake, IN location. We offer competitive pay along with a full package of benefits and opportunities for advancement. This position will be full-time with no nights or Sundays.

Responsibilities:

• Duties include doing daily vehicle and equipment inspections, informing Logistics Manager of any required maintenance to truck, forklifts, or other related equipment
• Keep equipment clean and in orderly fashion
• Load trucks according to list of materials on sales order
• Organize and secure each load, and will physically help drivers unload materials to customer satisfaction
• Assisting in unloading semi-trucks when necessary
• Communicate with Logistics Manager to ensure all task are complete
• Follow all company policies and procedures

Education/Required Skills:

• Maintain a valid driver's license
• Regularly lift/carry/move up to 50lbs. and may have to occasionally lift up to 80lbs.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, bend, reach, grip, push, pull, lift, climb, carry, and walk throughout Yard/Warehouses
• Safely operate all equipment
  • Could include sweeper, skid steer, order picker ranging from 8-30 feet in the air, forklift, pickup trucks (with and without snowplow), flatbeds, box trucks, vans, and SUVs.
• Ability to work outside in ALL weather conditions
• Effectively communicate information to customers/management/other team members through radios or in person
• Recognize and distinguish safety alarms and alert signals
• Identify, recognize, and respond to any safety/hazardous situations
• Assist customers with a smile
  • Including moving swiftly/jogging with a sense of urgency to waiting customers across our Yard/Warehouses
• Organizational skills, basic math, and ability to read a tape measure
• Composite/steel toe shoes required (annual boot reimbursement provided)
