Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a driver development coordinator to grow pre-qualified employees into CDL-qualified drivers while boosting morale and advancement opportunities across the team.

In this role, you will train and coordinate driver development, manage class schedules and equipment, and work with operations leaders to ensure policy compliance and high‑quality training outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazmat, and tank endorsements.
• Two (2) years' verifiable CMV driving experience in the last three years.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and perform inspections and trainings.

Starting Rate of Pay: $ 33.92 per hour

Position Overview

Effectively develop pre-qualified employees into CDL qualified drivers as well as increase morale and opportunity for advancement for employees. Perform city driving responsibilities and assist operations leadership with special assignments when not instructing.

Essential Functions

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including but not limited to: forklift, pallet jack and hand truck
• Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including but not limited to: pallets, straps and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges, as required, and maintain required documentation
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch, including but not limited to: delays, arrivals and equipment problems, as required
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicits additional business
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Ask for additional business from customers, and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
• Create and edit current curriculum to better educate participants
• Coordinate class schedules and locations, schedule skills course and drive times, secure equipment and supplies and measure success of participants
• Maintain good working relationship with service center managers and manager driver development
• Conduct pre-shift meetings, advertise for new participants and work with operations to encourage enrollment
• Assist in certifying new driver development coordinator instructors to ensure uniformity
• Conduct road tests, facilitate Smith System safe driving guidelines
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements
• Must possess two (2) years' verifiable experience within the previous three (3) years' operating a Class A (tractor/trailer) commercial motor vehicle (CMV)
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) (i.e. Triple Trailers, Rocky Mountain Doubles, and Turnpike Doubles) are operated in the states of AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD and UT. LCV Drivers in these states must meet the Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Pay

$33.92 - $39.26 per hour; if assigned linehaul duties, Mileage Pay Range: per mile, plus fixed pay for certain linehaul-related tasks equal to a fraction of the hourly rate (3/4, 1/2, 1/4), not based on time taken.
