Job summary

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is seeking a Class A OTR Driver to safely transport freight across the U.S. The role offers a home weekly schedule with consistent routes and benefits through a robust package.

Driver will operate late-model equipment, earn mileage-based pay with detention, and may perform occasional loading/unloading. This is an opportunity to support hunger relief across 21-county service area.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL with current and valid DOT medical certificate.
• Good driving record.
• 1+ years tractor/trailer route delivery experience.
• High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Experience with handheld route devices and/or electronic logging devices is desirable.
• Knowledge of DOT, state, and federal trucking regulations is required.
• Valid driver's license and insurability by company insurer.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate Class A CDL vehicle to transport freight.
• Deliver to various locations across the U.S. on an over-the-road schedule.
• Load and unload food products when required.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate with partners and donors.
• Uphold Gleaners’ mission to fight hunger.

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In addition to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.

POSITION DETAILS:

• Mileage Rate: $0.70 CPM
• Home Weekly
• Average Miles: 2200-2500 weekly
• Equipment: Late Model with Low Mileage
• Additional Pay: Detention
• $80 per full day, following the IRS-approved daily allowance.
• Prorated for partial travel days based on time away from home.
• Drivers must be away from their tax home overnight to qualify.
• Per Diem:
  • First 2 hours are free (standard industry allowance).
  • After that, detention is paid at $30 per hour.
  • Daily maximum detention payout is $180 per day.
• Routes: Consistent routes week to week

Essential Functions of Driver - Class A OTR:

The purpose of the Class A Driver is to safely and efficiently operate commercial motor vehicle in urban, suburban, and rural areas to transport freight. This position is an over the road position with the possibility of delivering to a wide variety of locations in the U.S. The position may require loading and unloading food products to charitable feeding partners and programs. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Education and/or Experience of Driver - Class A OTR:

• Class A CDL with current and valid DOT medical certificate
• Candidate must have a good driving record
• 1 + years tractor/trailer route delivery experience
• High School Diploma/GED preferred
• Experience with handheld route phone and/or electronic logging devices are desirable
• Knowledge of DOT, state, and federal trucking regulations is required
• Valid driver's license/Clean driving record /3 years of driving experience/Must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider

• Ability to sit; stand; walk; twist; bend; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
• Ability to speak and hear clearly
• Ability to lift and/or and move 50 lbs. and push/pull 2,000lbs. of product using manual pallet jack regularly.
• Ability to drive with overnight and interstate travel
• Ability to operate electric and manual pallet jacks.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• This position may include in and out of trailers or straight trucks, indoors, outdoors and warehouse
