Job summary

Northern Illinois Food Bank is seeking a CDL B Driver to support the safe and timely pickup and delivery of food and related products from donor locations to partner agencies within Northern Illinois. This full-time morning-shift role is based at the West Suburban Center in Geneva, IL.

Responsibilities include operating the Mobile Market on schedule, performing vehicle inspections, maintaining clean vehicles, and handling required paperwork.

Qualifications

• CDL B Driver’s License and DOT Medical Card required.
• 2+ years of driving experience with a clean record.
• Knowledge of basic truck maintenance and safety procedures.
• Certified on powered industrial lift trucks preferred.
• Ability to read/write in English and perform basic math.

Responsibilities

• Pick up food and related products at donor locations and deliver to agency locations.
• Operate Mobile Market according to schedules and safety rules.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report issues to supervisor.
• Maintain vehicles in clean, safe condition and perform routine maintenance.
• Provide loading/unloading assistance as needed.
• Complete required paperwork (Log, Trip Reports, etc.) as directed.

The Opportunity

Northern Illinois Food Bank seeks an extraordinarily motivated candidate to join our team as a CDL B Driver, supporting the organization through the safe and timely pick-up and delivery of food and related products. This role ensures efficient transportation and professional service to partners and community organizations while maintaining assigned fleet vehicles and adhering to safety guidelines to support our mission.

This is a Full-Time, Morning shift role based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Pick up food and related products at Donor locations, deliver orders to participating agency locations, and operate Mobile Market according to assigned schedules.


• Act and drive professionally and safely, following all Illinois Highway Department Rules and Guidelines, all Food Bank operating policies and procedures, and any other law that may apply.


• Conduct safety and maintenance inspection of truck(s) and trailer(s) before leaving each day and report any problems to Supervisor.


• Maintain assigned vehicles in clean condition.


• Provide loading/unloading trucks/trailers as required.


• Handle creation and submission of appropriate paperwork as required, including the maintenance of a Driver’s Daily Log, Vehicle Trip Reports and any other Reports that be specified by Food Bank management.


• Adhere to the food safety standards established by Northern Illinois Food Bank as outlined by Feeding America and per AIB accreditation. This includes all applicable training.


• Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

• 21 years of age or older, with a valid CDL B Driver’s License and DOT Medical Card.


• 2+ years of driving experience with a clean driving record.


• Subject to random drug screen program.


• Knowledge of truck maintenance.


• Able to be certified on powered industrial lift trucks.


• Ability to receive and follow instructions, with strong interpersonal skills


• Ability to read and write in English, and perform simple mathematical calculations as needed.
