Job summary

The North Texas Food Bank in Plano, TX is seeking a Driver - CDL A to transport product and assist with loading and unloading for our distribution network. The role supports the organization's mission by ensuring timely deliveries and accurate handling of goods.

You will follow DOT/FMCSA regulations, complete DVIR/ELD logs, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers while maintaining safety and compliance. This is a regular, full-time position with weekday shifts.

Qualifications

• Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED preferred; valid CDL Class A.
• DOT/FMCSA regulations knowledge and DVIR/ELD tracking required or preferred.
• One year of commercial driving experience; warehouse equipment experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete DVIR and utilize ELD tracking.
• Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.
• Maintain all required certifications by DOT, FMCSA, OSHA and company safety programs.
• Operate manual and electric pallet jacks to load and off-load freight up to 50+ pounds unassisted.
• Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment records and logs.
• Report vehicle and equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety guidelines.
• Travel within our service area as required.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Driver - CDL A is responsible for transporting product in addition to unloading and loading vehicles in support of the Food Bank.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Understand DOT and FMCSA regulations
• Working knowledge of Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and ELD tracking
• Strong verbal and written communication as it relates to the job
• Must be customer-centric for both internal and external customers

Experience:

• One year of commercial driving experience
• Experience with warehouse equipment (rider jack and forklift) preferred

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Complete DVIR and utilize ELD tracking
• Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations
• Maintain all required certifications by DOT, FMCSA, OSHA and company safety programs
• Maintain and protect all property entrusted to you in excellent condition
• Operate manual and electric pallet jacks to load and off-load freight/products up to 50+ pounds unassisted
• Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment records and logs
• Report vehicle and equipment for proper service in a timely manner to minimize downtime
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards
• Effectively represent NTFB in the community, as an ambassador of our values and mission
• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Individual will be subjected to prolonged sitting and driving
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. individually, and up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of appropriate equipment and/or co-worker(s)
• Must be able to successfully operate manual and electric pallet jacks and other warehouse support equipment, following completion of required training.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

• Moderate to loud noise (e.g., medium to heavy traffic in the warehouse with forklifts and pallet jacks)
• Travel required within our 13-county service area and occasionally outside the area
• Work schedule is Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays; typically work the morning shift, but must be flexible with work schedule
• Must be able to non-hazardous weather conditions, year-round, and in varying internal (hot and cold) temperature levels in the warehouse
